Nawab Malik Confident in Mankhurd Shivaji Nagar Election Amidst Opposition

Nawab Malik, a leader from the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), is running for the Mankhurd Shivaji Nagar assembly seat in Mumbai, Maharashtra. Despite facing opposition from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Shiv Sena Shinde faction, Malik is confident about his chances in the upcoming assembly elections. He expressed gratitude to the NCP leadership, including Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar, for their support and trust in him.

The BJP’s Mumbai chief, Ashish Shelar, stated that the party would not support Malik’s candidacy. The Shiv Sena also opposes Malik, citing alleged links to underworld figure Dawood Ibrahim. Malik had previously filed his nomination as an independent candidate before officially representing the NCP.

The current assembly seat is held by Samajwadi Party leader Abu Azmi. The elections are part of a larger political landscape in Maharashtra, with the BJP in alliance with NCP (Ajit Pawar) and Shiv Sena (Eknath Shinde) under the Mahayuti alliance. The opposing alliance, Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA), includes Congress, Sharad Pawar-led NCP, and Uddhav Thackeray-led Shiv Sena.

The Maharashtra Assembly elections are scheduled for November 20, with results expected on November 23. In previous elections, the BJP and Shiv Sena have been significant players, with the BJP winning 105 seats in 2019 and 122 in 2014.
