Naveen Patnaik Criticizes BJP’s Subhadra Scheme in Odisha
Bhubaneswar (Odisha) [India], August 24: BJD president and Leader of Opposition in the Odisha Assembly, Naveen Patnaik, has criticized the BJP government over the Subhadra scheme announced on August 23. Patnaik took to social media platform X to express his concerns.
Patnaik stated, “The BJP had given a ‘guarantee’ to provide Rs 50,000 to every woman in the State but now they are paying only Rs 5000 and that is also not to all women in the state.” He questioned the BJP’s promise, highlighting that only one in every three women will benefit from the scheme.
Patnaik further explained that out of the 4.5 crore population, 2.25 crore women were expected to be included, but only 70 lakh women will be involved according to the BJP government. He criticized the amount being given, saying it is too little to make a significant impact.
Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi had earlier announced the approval of the Subhadra initiative for women’s empowerment. The scheme, approved by the state cabinet, will be implemented from the financial year 2024-25 to 2028-29 with an outlay of Rs 55,825 crore. It aims to transform the lives of over 1 crore women, providing Rs 10,000 per annum in two instalments of Rs 5000 each on Rakhi Purnima Day and International Women’s Day.
