National Zonal Cricket Championship for the Deaf Kicks Off in Srinagar

The Indian Deaf Cricket Association (IDCA) is organizing a five-day One-Day National Zonal Cricket Championship for the Deaf in Srinagar from July 17-21. This is the first time this event is being held, and it features eight specially-abled men’s teams from different parts of India competing for the Champions Trophy.

Sumit Jain, President of IDCA, expressed gratitude to the Serum Institute of India, Cyrus Poonawalla Group, KFC India, Hero MotoCorp, HK Cement Industries Pvt. Ltd., S.E.M. College, and Jammu & Kashmir Cricket Association for their support.

Suhail Ahmad Mir, President of J & K Physiotherapists Association and International Sports Physiotherapist, said, “Being invited as chief guest for the National Zonal Matches organized by IDCA in JKCA was truly an honour. Real love and passion for your sport carry you through both good and bad times. BCCI’s Honorable Secretary should fully support IDCA in organizing such tournaments to encourage specially-abled cricket players in our country, enhancing their performance in national competitions. On behalf of the J & Kashmir Physiotherapists Association, I welcome all zonal teams to Kashmir.”

Majid Dar, In-charge of Cricketing Development Activities at JKCA Srinagar, welcomed participants from across India and emphasized JKCA’s commitment to supporting and promoting cricket, especially for specially-abled individuals.

The tournament began with a special opening ceremony at Sher-i-Kashmir Stadium in Sonwar, Srinagar. The final match, featuring the two best teams, is scheduled for July 21.

Hero MotoCorp -: Hero MotoCorp is a company in India that makes motorcycles and scooters.

Sher-i-Kashmir Stadium -: This is a big sports stadium in Srinagar where cricket and other sports are played.
