National Mourning Declared in Pakistan After Deadly Kurram Terror Attack
In response to the tragic Kurram terror attack, Allama Raja Nasir Abbas Jafri, the central chairman of Majlis Wahdat-i-Muslimeen Pakistan (MWM), announced three days of national mourning. Protests and rallies were held across Sindh province and other major cities in Pakistan to condemn the attack on a convoy in Lower Kurram, which resulted in at least 42 deaths.
The violence in Kurram, a district in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, followed another deadly attack in the same area. MWM organized protests in Karachi, Hyderabad, and Sukkur, where leaders condemned the Parachinar tragedy. Allama Ahmed Iqbal Rizvi criticized the security forces, calling the attacks a well-orchestrated conspiracy and highlighting the ongoing targeting of Kurram by ISIS, the Taliban, and other militants.
Allama Baqir Abbas Zaidi urged the government to recognize the victims' martyrdom and declare a national day of mourning. He called for the recovery of missing passengers and the arrest of those responsible. Jamaat-i-Islami leader Hafiz Naeemur Rehman proposed forming a grand jirga in Parachinar to address sectarian tensions, emphasizing that the incident was not a Shia-Sunni conflict but a conspiracy to destabilize society.
Rehman criticized former president General Pervez Musharraf and the war on terrorism for the current situation, stating that tribal support for the army was undermined by policies leading to terrorism and destruction.
