The National Conference (NC) and Congress have decided to join forces for the upcoming assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir. This announcement was made by NC patron Farooq Abdullah in Srinagar after discussions with Congress leaders Mallikarjun Kharge and Rahul Gandhi.

Alliance Details

Farooq Abdullah stated, “The alliance has been finalized and by this evening the details of seat-sharing will be announced. The Alliance is for 90 seats.” He emphasized that the primary concern is to restore statehood and fight divisive forces.

Statements from Leaders

Rahul Gandhi highlighted the importance of restoring democratic rights and statehood to Jammu and Kashmir. He said, “We had expected that this would be done before the elections but elections have been declared. It is a step forward and we are hoping that statehood will be restored as soon as possible.”

Mallikarjun Kharge criticized the BJP-led central government for not fulfilling promises made to Jammu and Kashmir. He stated, “Our party has decided that under the leadership of Rahulji, we will restore statehood to Jammu and Kashmir, and we make this promise.”

Election Schedule

The assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir will be held in three phases on September 18, 25, and October 1. This will be the first assembly poll in the region since the abrogation of Article 370.
