Earlier in the day, Omar Abdullah took the oath as the first Chief Minister of the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir. The oath ceremony was conducted by Lieutenant Governor Manoj Saxena at the Sher-i-Kashmir International Convention Centre in Srinagar.

NC-Congress Alliance Wins Majority
The Jammu and Kashmir National Conference (JKNC) and Congress alliance secured a majority in the assembly elections, which were held after a decade. The JKNC won 42 seats, while the Congress secured six seats. Omar Abdullah, who previously served as Chief Minister from 2009 to 2015, leads the National Conference-led government with support from the INDIA bloc and four independent members.
