Amaravati (Andhra Pradesh) [India], July 23: Nara Lokesh, a minister from Andhra Pradesh, expressed his delight over the Finance Ministry’s allocations for the state in the Union Budget 2024. He described it as a ‘new sunrise’ for Andhra Pradesh.

Lokesh, who is the son of Chief Minister and Telugu Desam Party (TDP) chief Chandrababu Naidu, praised the central government’s recognition of the need for a state capital. He mentioned that their ‘struggle’ has been recognized and highlighted the special package provided for industrial growth, infrastructure, irrigation, and human resource development.

Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman announced Rs 15000 crore for building the state capital Amravathi in the current financial year. She also committed to the early completion of the Polavaram irrigation project, which is crucial for Andhra Pradesh’s food security.

Additional funds were allocated for essential infrastructure like water, power, railways, and roads, as well as for the Visakhapatnam-Chennai and Hyderabad-Chennai Industrial Corridors. Grants for backward regions of Rayalseema, Prakasam, and North Coastal Andhra were also announced.

The budget announcement comes as the National Democratic Alliance, with TDP as a key partner, has recently been elected to power in Andhra Pradesh.
