Murtaza Khan Dismisses Exit Polls for Jammu and Kashmir Elections

In Poonch, Jammu and Kashmir, BJP candidate Murtaza Khan expressed skepticism about exit poll predictions for the assembly elections. He stated that these projections often differ from actual results, citing past discrepancies in parliamentary elections. Exit polls suggest a hung assembly with the NC-Congress alliance slightly ahead of the BJP. The Election Commission reported a 63.88% voter turnout, with vote counting set for October 8.

External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar’s upcoming visit to Pakistan for a Shanghai Cooperation Organisation conclave was also discussed. Khan noted the potential benefits of improved India-Pakistan relations, though Jaishankar clarified he won’t discuss bilateral issues during the visit.

Former Deputy Chief Minister Kavinder Gupta mentioned BJP’s ongoing talks with “like-minded” parties, expressing confidence in securing more than 35 seats in Jammu and additional seats in Kashmir. Various exit polls, including Axis My India and TV-Today C-voter, predict a close contest with no party reaching the majority mark of 46 seats.

National Conference Vice President Omar Abdullah and other leaders have dismissed the exit poll predictions, emphasizing the importance of the actual results to be announced on October 8.
