Mumtaz Patel Criticizes BJP Over Massive Cocaine Seizure in Gujarat

In New Delhi, Congress leader Mumtaz Patel expressed concerns over the recent seizure of 518 kg of cocaine in Ankleshwar, Gujarat. She accused the BJP government of allowing illegal activities, questioning if Gujarat has become a gateway for drugs. Patel highlighted past drug seizures, including a Rs 1300 crore bust in August, and noted that 30% of drugs recovered during the Lok Sabha 2024 elections were from Gujarat.

Patel criticized the BJP, which has governed Gujarat for 30 years, for not preventing such incidents. She emphasized the societal impact of drug addiction and the need for collective action. Patel referenced the term ‘Udta Punjab’ to describe the situation in Gujarat, pointing out the ongoing drug issues under BJP’s watch.

On Sunday, a joint operation by Delhi and Gujarat Police led to the seizure of 518 kg of cocaine worth Rs 5,000 crore. This operation was part of the Zero Tolerance against Drugs policy and the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan. The raid at Avkar Drugs Limited in Ankleshwar highlighted the need for vigilance against drug activities.

Five individuals were arrested in connection with the cocaine bust. Earlier, on October 1, Delhi Police’s Special Cell raided a warehouse in Mahipalpur, uncovering 562 kg of cocaine and 40 kg of hydroponic marijuana. Further investigations led to the recovery of 208 kg of cocaine from a shop in Ramesh Nagar, Delhi, on October 10. In total, 1,289 kg of cocaine and 40 kg of marijuana, valued at Rs 13,000 crore, have been seized in this case.
