Mumbai’s Andheri Station Reopens After Heavy Rains Cause Waterlogging
The Central Railways announced that local train services at Andheri station in Mumbai were restored on Thursday morning after a night of heavy rain caused severe waterlogging. The water has receded, allowing trains to run normally, although some are 3-4 minutes behind schedule due to rescheduled mail express movements.
Harbour line local trains also resumed after water receded between Govandi and Mankhurd, with services operating at a cautious speed of 25 kmph. The Central Railways issued an advisory urging commuters to stay inside the trains and avoid stepping onto the tracks for safety reasons.
Western Railway suburban services were also restored as waters receded at several stations. Apart from Andheri, areas like Kurla East, Nehru Nagar, and Chembur experienced waterlogging and traffic disruptions. Kurla Bridge saw heavy traffic snarls, and flight operations at Mumbai airport were affected with seven go-arounds and two diversions.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a red alert for Mumbai, warning of heavy rainfall. Consequently, the city administration declared a holiday for all schools and colleges in Mumbai and Pune for safety reasons. The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) advised residents to step out only if necessary.
