Mumbai Schools and Colleges Closed Due to Heavy Rainfall Red Alert
The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has announced that all schools and colleges in Mumbai will be closed on September 26, 2024, following a ‘red alert’ issued by the India Meteorological Department (IMD). The BMC has advised residents to stay indoors unless absolutely necessary.
Weather Forecast:
The IMD has forecasted thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and intense spells of rain with gusty winds reaching 40-50 kmph. These conditions are expected to occur in isolated places in the districts of Mumbai, Palghar, Nandurbar, Dhule, Jalgaon, Solapur, and Satara over the next few hours.
Current Situation:
Heavy rainfall has already affected parts of Mumbai, causing waterlogging and traffic congestion. BMC officials are continuously monitoring the situation from the Disaster Management Control Room at the BMC Headquarters.

Earlier, the IMD issued a red alert for Thane, Palghar, and Raigad districts, and for Ratnagiri district on September 26. The daily weather bulletin also predicted heavy to very heavy rainfall in various regions including Konkan & Goa, Coastal Andhra Pradesh & Yanam, East Madhya Pradesh, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal & Sikkim, Marathwada, Coastal Karnataka, and Bihar.
