In Mumbai, Maharashtra, just weeks before the Assembly elections, police discovered Rs 20 lakh in cash during a checkpoint in the Chembur area. The incident occurred on a Friday, leading to the detention of several individuals for questioning. The Tilak Nagar police have also involved the Income Tax Department in the investigation.

With the election dates announced, the model code of conduct is in effect, requiring individuals carrying over Rs 50,000 to have valid documentation. The Maharashtra Assembly elections are set for November 20, with results to be announced on November 23.

Both the ruling Mahayuti alliance, which includes the BJP, Shiv Sena (Eknath Shinde faction), and Ajit Pawar-led NCP, and the opposition Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA), comprising Shiv Sena (UBT), NCP (Sharad Pawar faction), and Congress, are actively preparing for the elections. They are holding meetings to finalize seat-sharing arrangements.

In the previous 2019 elections, the BJP won 105 seats, Shiv Sena 56, and Congress 44. In 2014, the BJP had a larger victory with 122 seats, Shiv Sena 63, and Congress 42. Recently, a significant meeting took place in Delhi with Home Minister Amit Shah and leaders of the BJP-led Mahayuti alliance, including Chief Minister Eknath Shinde and Deputy CMs Devendra Fadnavis and Ajit Pawar.
