Mumbai NCB Disposes 5,500 Kgs of Seized Drugs
The Mumbai Zonal Unit of the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) has disposed of about 5,500 kgs of illicit drugs. These drugs were seized in various cases, leading to the arrest of numerous offenders, including foreign nationals.
High-Level Drug Disposal Committee
A High-Level Drug Disposal Committee (HLDDC) was formed according to Supreme Court guidelines. The committee included Maneesh Kumar, IRS, Dy. DG-NCB, Amit Ghawate, IRS, Addl. Director, NCB-Mumbai, and Rajendra Shirtode, ACP, ANC-Mumbai. The committee reviewed the cases and selected the fit ones for pre-trial disposal.
Incineration of Seized Drugs
The seized drugs were incinerated on August 8th and 9th, 2024, at Mumbai Waste Management Ltd., Taloja, Maharashtra. This included about 10 kgs of cocaine, primarily sourced from Latin America, and over 52,130 bottles of codeine-based syrups.
Arrests and Investigations
Numerous offenders, including kingpins, financers, carriers, and associates, were arrested. Some of these individuals had been previously registered under the NDPS Act by the NCB. The NCB has been actively working to ensure a drug-free society by clamping down on inter-state and international drug syndicates.
