Mumbai Faces Heavy Rains: CM Eknath Shinde Reviews Situation

On Monday morning, Mumbai was hit by heavy rains, causing significant disruptions. Chief Minister Eknath Shinde chaired a high-level meeting to review the situation and directed all emergency agencies to be on high alert.

Disruptions in Mumbai

CM Shinde shared on social media that the heavy rains led to traffic jams and affected railway services. He urged citizens to stay indoors unless necessary and called for cooperation from the Mumbai Municipal Corporation, Police Administration, and Emergency Services.

High-Level Meeting

The Chief Minister’s Office stated that CM Shinde is chairing a meeting at the Disaster Control Room to review the flood situation. Mumbai Guardian Minister MP Lodha, Relief and Rehabilitation Minister Anil Patil, and others are present.

Weather Alert

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange alert for Mumbai, predicting very heavy rain in the next 24 hours. On Monday, Colaba recorded 83.8 mm of rainfall, and Santacruz recorded 267.9 mm.

Waterlogging and Disruptions

Heavy rains led to waterlogging in low-lying areas like Worli, Kurla East, King’s Circle, Dadar, and Vidyavihar Railway Station. Powai Lake, with a capacity of 545 crore litres, started overflowing around 4:45 a.m. due to the heavy rains.

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) reported that Mumbai received 2547 mm of rainfall, which is 27% of the average annual rain during the same period.
