Mumbai Customs Seizes Gold, Ganja, and Forex at Airport

Mumbai Customs has made a significant seizure at the Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport. They confiscated over 20.18 kg of gold valued at Rs 13 crore, 4.98 kg of ganja, and forex worth Rs 0.96 crore. Seven individuals were arrested in connection with this case.

According to an official statement, the seizures took place between July 15 and July 27, 2024. The gold was found hidden in cardboard boxes and on the bodies of passengers. This operation was part of 39 different cases.

In a related event, Mumbai Customs had earlier seized a large quantity of contraband in June. This included cigarettes, e-cigarettes, and tobacco/gutkha worth over Rs 10 crore from the Taloja area. The operation on June 25 led to the confiscation of approximately 10,000 kg of goods, totaling around 74 lakh sticks of cigarettes. These items were destroyed at the Mumbai Waste Management Limited facility in Taloja.
