Mumbai Court Extends Custody of Rajesh Shah’s Driver in Worli Hit-and-Run Case

A Mumbai court has extended the police custody of Rajesh Shah’s driver, Rajrishi Singh Bidawat, until July 11 in connection with the Worli hit-and-run case. The incident involved Mihir Shah, the son of political leader Rajesh Shah, who allegedly drove a luxury car that struck and killed a 45-year-old woman, Kaveri Nakhwa, and injured her husband.

Details of the Incident

According to Mumbai police, Mihir Shah was driving the car when it hit the scooter on Dr Annie Besant Road in Worli. The couple was returning home after buying fish when the accident occurred. Kaveri Nakhwa died during treatment, while her husband sustained injuries.

Police Investigation

Mumbai police argued in court that they need to interrogate Mihir Shah and Rajrishi Singh Bidawat together, as both were present at the time of the accident. The police also mentioned that Mihir Shah takes drugs. However, the defense lawyer claimed that there is no evidence of the driver’s involvement or drug consumption.

Arrests and Allegations

Mihir Shah was arrested from Virar after being on the run. Rajrishi Singh Bidawat and Mihir’s father, Rajesh Shah, were also arrested for their alleged involvement. Pradeep Nakhwa, the deceased woman’s husband, questioned the delay in the arrest and alleged political influence due to Mihir being the son of a political leader.

Bar Sealed

The Excise Department sealed the Vice Global Tapas Bar in Juhu, where Mihir Shah had a party before the incident. The bar staff and owner were questioned by the police.

Government Response

Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde expressed concern over the rise in hit-and-run incidents and directed the police to take strict action, ensuring that the guilty will not be spared.
