Mumbai Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) president Ashish Shelar announced that equal action will be taken against all those involved in the Pune car accident. The incident, which occurred on May 19, resulted in the deaths of two IT professionals who were hit by a car allegedly driven by a drunk 17-year-old boy.
Shelar emphasized, “Whether it is a big builder or a big name, equal action will be taken against everyone and an investigation will be done.”
Upcoming Maharashtra Assembly Election
Regarding the upcoming Maharashtra assembly election, Shelar mentioned that Devendra Fadnavis, Eknath Shinde, and Ajit Dada Pawar will discuss seat sharing and decide on the Chief Minister candidate. The current assembly’s tenure ends on November 26.
High Court’s Decision on Juvenile Accused
The Bombay High Court ordered the immediate release of the 17-year-old boy involved in the accident from the observation home, deeming his remand orders illegal. The court stressed that the law regarding juveniles must be fully implemented, prioritizing justice above all else.
Justices Bharati Dangre and Manjusha Deshpande criticized the Juvenile Justice Board’s orders and the police’s handling of the case, emphasizing that the accused is still a child under the Juvenile Justice Act, which focuses on rehabilitation and social integration.
The court issued a writ of Habeas Corpus for the boy’s release and quashed the orders that kept him in the observation home. The court also directed that the boy continue any necessary therapies while staying at home under the supervision of his paternal aunt.
Bail for Accused’s Father
On June 21, the Pune district court granted bail to Vishal Agarwal, the father of the accused teenager. However, the boy’s 77-year-old grandfather remains in judicial custody for allegedly forcing the driver to take responsibility for the crime.
