In Udhampur district, located in Jammu and Kashmir, there has been a worrying increase in monkey attacks on people. Over the past five to six months, around 20-25 cases have been reported at the local hospital, according to Dr. Rooplai Gupta, a Medical Officer at the Public Health Centre in Jaganoo.

Rising Concerns in Jaganoo

The Jaganoo block of the district is particularly affected. Dr. Gupta mentioned that both the residents and hospital staff are afraid to go out alone because monkeys often attack from behind. She emphasized the need for the authorities to remove the monkeys from the area to ensure safety.

Impact on Schools

Sanjeet Sharma, a former Block Development Chairman and school owner, highlighted the challenges faced by schools due to the monkey menace. He explained that protecting children from monkey bites is difficult as monkeys often steal their tiffins and sometimes bite them.

Monkey bites can lead to serious injuries and the transmission of diseases such as rabies and herpes B virus, making it crucial to address this issue promptly.
