Monem Zafar Khan Leads Jamaat-i-Islami Protest Against Alleged Election Rigging in Karachi

On Friday, Jamaat-i-Islami (JI) organized a protest on Sharea Faisal in Karachi, accusing the ruling Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) of manipulating the results of local government by-elections. The elections, held to fill 10 vacant seats, saw the PPP winning eight seats, including one in Liaquatabad Town, previously held by JI. Despite winning two seats, JI alleged rigging and protested near the Nursery bus stop.

JI leader Monem Zafar Khan addressed the protest, warning that his party would not tolerate “fake mandates” and threatened to escalate their protest if the results were not revised. He accused the PPP, the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP), and law enforcement agencies of altering the election results. Zafar claimed that Karachi residents supported JI, but the PPP used “unfair tactics” to secure a victory.

Zafar highlighted irregularities in UC 7 of Model Town, where he alleged that the PPP’s vote count was inflated while JI’s was reduced. He also pointed out similar issues in Liaquatabad Town. Zafar’s statements raise questions about the transparency and fairness of the electoral process in Karachi.
