Mohun Bagan Super Giant vs NorthEast United FC: Exciting ISL Clash in Kolkata

On Monday, Mohun Bagan Super Giant (MBSG) will play their second home game of the Indian Super League (ISL) against NorthEast United FC (NEUFC) in Kolkata. The Mariners (MBSG) are looking for their first win after drawing with Mumbai City FC (MCFC) in their opening match.

NorthEast United FC, on the other hand, won their first game thanks to a late goal by Alaeddine Ajaraie against Mohammedan SC. They recently defeated the Mariners in the Durand Cup 2024 final and are aiming for their third consecutive win in Kolkata.

MBSG have scored in 15 of their 16 ISL games in 2024, including 11 consecutive matches. They are one game away from matching their record of 12 consecutive scoring games. NEUFC have kept three clean sheets in their last four games. If they prevent MBSG from scoring, it will be their first time achieving three consecutive clean sheets in ISL.

MBSG coach Jose Molina is focused on improving his team’s defense. “We have to play better and defend better to win matches. I’m working every day with my players to avoid conceding goals,” Molina said.

NEUFC coach Juan Pedro Benali expects a strong performance from MBSG. “Mohun Bagan haven’t had the best results recently. They will be eager to get the better of us, and our job is to make it as difficult as possible for them,” Benali said.

Key players to watch include MBSG’s Dimitri Petratos, who scored 10 goals and provided seven assists last season, and NEUFC’s Jithin MS, who created two chances and delivered two key passes against Mohammedan SC. NEUFC midfielder Mohammed Bemmamer won back possession 13 times in their last game, the most by any player in a single ISL game in 2024. MBSG attacker Liston Colaco has scored eight goals against NEUFC, the highest by any player against the Highlanders in ISL history.
