Mohun Bagan Super Giant Signs Nuno Reis and Draws 2-2 with Mumbai City FC
Mohun Bagan Super Giant (MBSG) has announced the signing of Portuguese defender Nuno Reis. The 33-year-old recently played for Melbourne City FC in the A-League, where he won three consecutive Premiership titles and the championship in 2021. Reis is the seventh overseas signing for MBSG this season, although the club can only register six foreign players during the season.
The Mariners, the defending ISL Shield winners, began their campaign with a 2-2 draw against Mumbai City FC (MCFC) on Friday. Despite taking a 2-0 lead in the first half, MBSG couldn’t secure all three points as Mumbai City FC made a spirited comeback in a rain-soaked evening in Kolkata.
The match started with Mumbai City FC showing a lot of momentum. They found the back of the net in the fourth minute through Bipin Singh, but it was flagged offside. Five minutes later, Phurba Lachenpa’s cross ricocheted off Tiri, giving MBSG the lead. Alberto Rodriguez doubled the lead in the 28th minute.
In the second half, Mumbai City FC’s relentless attacks paid off when Tiri scored, followed by Thaer Krouma’s equalizer in the dying moments of the match. MBSG will next face Tajikistan’s Kavshan Kulob in the AFC Champions League at the Salt Lake Stadium on Wednesday.
