Mohinder Bhagat Wins Jalandhar West By-Election for Aam Aadmi Party

Chandigarh (Punjab) [India], July 13: Mohinder Bhagat, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) candidate, won the Jalandhar West assembly by-election by defeating BJP’s Sheetal Angural by over 37,000 votes. Bhagat received 55,246 votes, while Angural got 17,921 votes. Congress candidate Surinder Kaur came third with 16,757 votes.

Bhagat expressed his gratitude to party members on social media, thanking them for their hard work and support. AAP leader Sanjay Singh commented on the victory, stating that those who leave AAP for BJP face defeat. He congratulated the Punjab CM and party workers for the win.

AAP MP Sandeep Pathak also spoke about the victory, highlighting the trust people have in CM Bhagwant Mann’s governance. He criticized BJP for focusing on poaching leaders rather than their work.

Punjab Minister Harpal Singh Cheema thanked the people of Jalandhar West and expressed confidence in retaining the seat by a large margin.

Other By-Election Results

In Himachal Pradesh, Congress candidate Kamlesh Thakur, wife of Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, won the Dehra assembly by-election, defeating BJP’s Hoshyar Singh by over 9,000 votes. CM Sukhu praised the party workers and the people of Dehra for their support.

Congress candidate Hardeep Singh Bawa led the Nalagarh assembly constituency by 6,870 votes against BJP’s KL Thakur. The only success for BJP was in Hamirpur, where Ashish Sharma led by 1,571 votes.

The by-elections were held on July 10, and the counting of votes for 13 legislative assembly seats across seven states began on Saturday morning.
