Mohinder Bhagat Wins Jalandhar West By-Election
Mohinder Bhagat, the Aam Aadmi Party’s (AAP) candidate, won the Jalandhar West assembly by-election by defeating BJP’s Sheetal Angural with a margin of over 37,000 votes. Bhagat received 55,246 votes, while Angural secured 17,921 votes. Congress nominee Surinder Kaur came in third with 16,757 votes.
Celebrations and Reactions
Bhagat expressed his gratitude to party members and volunteers on social media, thanking them for their hard work. AAP leader Sanjay Singh highlighted the party’s unity and the public’s trust in AAP, stating that those who left AAP for BJP faced defeat.
AAP MP Sandeep Pathak also commented on the victory, emphasizing the public’s trust in Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann and criticizing BJP’s focus on poaching leaders from other parties.
Kamlesh Thakur Wins in Dehra
In Himachal Pradesh, Congress candidate Kamlesh Thakur won the Dehra assembly by-election, defeating BJP’s Hoshyar Singh by over 9,000 votes. Kamlesh Thakur credited the victory to the hard work of party leaders and workers.
Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu praised the people of Himachal for their support, noting Congress’s lead in two out of three assembly seats in the state.
Other By-Election Results
Congress candidate Hardeep Singh Bawa led the Nalagarh assembly constituency by 6,870 votes against BJP’s KL Thakur. In Hamirpur, BJP’s Ashish Sharma held a narrow lead of 1,571 votes.
The by-elections were held for 13 legislative assembly seats across seven states, with polling taking place on July 10 and vote counting beginning on July 13.
