Srinagar (Jammu and Kashmir) [India], August 30: Mohd Iqbal Mir, General Secretary of the Nationalist People Front (NPF), shared his views on the upcoming Jammu and Kashmir State Assembly elections. He highlighted the need for youth representation, stating, “Our party’s manifesto focuses on being the voice of the youth. The youth have been the chief victims in the country for the past 30 years.”

Mir criticized other parties for not addressing the abrogation of Article 370 in their manifestos. He said, “Almost no party talks about greater autonomy. The National Conference and Congress alliance does not mention Article 370.” He added that former Chief Minister Farooq Abdullah believes Article 370 cannot be reinstated even after 100 years without majority support.

Mir noted that only the Communist Party supports reinstating Article 370 but acknowledged the difficulty due to limited parliamentary seats. “We only have 5 seats from Jammu and Kashmir in the Parliament, so the five seats can demand it, speak about it, but to restore it is not in our power,” he said.

Polling in Jammu and Kashmir will be conducted in three phases on September 18, 25, and October 1, with the counting of votes on October 4. Voting will be held for 90 assembly constituencies.
