Mohammed Shami’s Road to Recovery

Fitness Update and Future Plans

Mohammed Shami, a key player for India’s cricket team, is working hard to regain full fitness after surgery on his Achilles tendon. He has been out of action since India’s loss to Australia in the ODI World Cup final last year. Shami missed several important series, including the T20 World Cup and matches against England, Bangladesh, Australia, and New Zealand.

Although he was expected to play in the Duleep Trophy and the Irani Cup, he was not included in the squads. With the Border Gavaskar Trophy approaching in Australia on November 22, Shami shared that his knee is improving and he hopes to return to the field soon. “The knee is fine, and my fitness is good. Hopefully, the progress goes on, and I get fully fit and make a comeback to the field,” Shami said during an event.

Recently, Shami practiced bowling at Bengaluru’s M Chinnaswamy Stadium, aiming to regain his form. Videos of his practice session, attended by India assistant coach Abhishek Nayar and bowling coach Morne Morkel, went viral. Shami’s session lasted from 2:30 PM to 3:50 PM after India’s loss to New Zealand in the first Test match.

India’s captain, Rohit Sharma, emphasized the importance of Shami’s full recovery, stating, “To be honest, it is difficult to make a call on him for the Australia series. He had a setback with swelling in his knees, which delayed his recovery. He is currently at the NCA with doctors and physios. We don’t want to bring an undercooked Shami to Australia. We are keeping our fingers crossed.”
