Mohammed Hafeez Criticizes Virat Kohli and KL Rahul for Selfish Play in ODI World Cup

Former Pakistan cricketer Mohammed Hafeez has criticized Indian cricket stars Virat Kohli and KL Rahul for allegedly prioritizing their personal milestones over their team’s success during the last year’s ODI World Cup.

Comments on KL Rahul

Speaking on the Club Praire Fire Podcast with cricket legends Adam Gilchrist and Michael Vaughan, Hafeez pointed out an instance where KL Rahul, despite hitting a six to finish India’s campaign opener against Australia, appeared unhappy because he missed out on scoring a century. KL Rahul had scored 97* in the run-chase of 200 runs.

Comments on Virat Kohli

Hafeez also criticized Virat Kohli for allegedly focusing on reaching his century rather than playing aggressively for the team against South Africa. Hafeez questioned why Kohli took several balls to reach his hundred instead of playing attacking shots.

Performance in the Tournament

Despite these criticisms, both players had impressive performances in the tournament. Virat Kohli was the top-scorer with 765 runs in 11 matches, including three centuries and six fifties. KL Rahul scored 452 runs in 10 innings, with a century and two half-centuries. However, India did not win the tournament, as Australia claimed victory in the final held at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
