Miracle in Bengaluru: Pre-term Twins Survive Against All Odds
In Tumkur, a farming family experienced a medical miracle when their pre-term twins, born at just 23 weeks and weighing around 500 grams each, survived against the odds. The twins were delivered at Aster Women and Children Hospital in Bangalore after the mother went into premature labor due to a shortened cervix.
The twins, part of the rare 0.3% of babies born weighing less than 600 grams, faced numerous health challenges. They were admitted to the NICU for nearly four months, where they received advanced medical care to combat conditions like intraventricular hemorrhage, infections, and respiratory distress syndrome.
A dedicated medical team, led by Dr. Srinivasa Murthy C L and Dr. Lathiesh Kumar K, worked tirelessly to ensure the twins’ survival. The parents, initially devastated, were kept informed and supported throughout the process. Financial challenges were alleviated through support from the Rotary Club and crowdfunding.
Now discharged, the twins are undergoing long-term follow-up care to aid their development. This case highlights the advancements in neonatal care and the power of hope and community support.
