Ministry of Women and Child Development Wins National Award for Poshan Tracker Initiative
The Ministry of Women and Child Development has received the National Award for e-Governance 2024 (Gold) for its Poshan Tracker initiative. This program, part of Mission Poshan 2.0, monitors the growth of children aged 0-6 years using real-time data and WHO growth charts. It has successfully identified and addressed growth issues, covering 8.9 crore children.
The Poshan Tracker program uses real-time monitoring to identify and address growth issues among children. It relies on WHO growth charts to assess children’s growth patterns by comparing their height and weight with age and sex-specific standards. This helps Anganwadi Workers (AWWs) evaluate nutritional status and spot any deviations from expected growth, leading to timely interventions and better health outcomes.
With the aid of Growth Measuring Devices (GMD) available at each Anganwadi Center (AWC), accurate data entry, and regular monitoring, the program has achieved impressive results. Currently, Mission Poshan 2.0 covers an impressive 8.9 crore children (0-6 years), with a remarkable 8.57 crore measured in a single month through routine monthly Growth Measurement. This extensive reach and impact are a testament to the program’s commitment to transforming lives.
By focusing on the early identification of health issues, nutritional assessment, and tracking of developmental milestones, Mission Poshan 2.0 is not only improving health outcomes but also empowering communities to take charge of their children’s well-being. As the program continues to evolve and expand, it remains a beacon of hope for a healthier, brighter future for India’s youngest citizens.
In addition to the Poshan Tracker, the ministry also conducts an annual Poshan ‘Maah’ (Month) from September 1 to 30 and Poshan Pakhwada, a fortnight in March, to raise awareness about nutrition. Since 2018, these campaigns have led to over 100 crore nutrition-centric activities, underscoring the program’s extensive impact and outreach.
