Minister Sharan Prakash Patil Seeks NRI Quotas in Karnataka Medical Colleges
Karnataka Medical Education and Skill Development Minister Sharan Prakash Patil has written a letter to the central government requesting a 15% increase in NRI quotas in government medical colleges. He believes this will help improve the quality of education and generate more funds for the colleges.
Patil stated, “In the long run, if you want to improve the quality of education and have better teaching facilities in the teaching hospitals, we need to generate more money.” He added that while the government provides sufficient funds, additional funds are necessary to keep up with private medical colleges.
Earlier, on June 13, Patil issued strict instructions to officials to inspect and seal nursing colleges that failed to provide basic infrastructure despite receiving government facilities. During a meeting at Vikasa Soudha, he received numerous complaints about the lack of infrastructure in several nursing colleges and instructed the Director of Medical Education, Dr. Sujatha Rathore, to take action.
