Minister Sarbananda Sonowal Visits Maritime Training Institute on National Space Day

New Delhi, August 23: Union Minister of Ports, Shipping and Waterways, Sarbananda Sonowal, visited the Maritime Training Institute (MTI) in Powai. This institute has been a leader in maritime training for over three decades. The visit underscored the Ministry’s dedication to skills development and educational excellence in the maritime industry.

During his visit, Minister Sonowal interacted with key officials from the Shipping Corporation of India Limited (SCI), Shipping Corporation of India Land and Assets Limited (SCILAL), the Directorate General of Shipping, the Indian Register of Shipping, and other industry stakeholders. He toured MTI’s state-of-the-art facilities and planted a sapling in the ‘Ayush Vatika’ as part of the ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ campaign.

Sonowal also celebrated India’s first National Space Day with the young cadets, marking India’s achievement of landing on the moon’s southern polar region. He emphasized that under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, India is on its way to becoming a developed international power, as envisioned in the Amrit Kaal Vision. He encouraged the youth to transform India into a global power and achieve the vision of Atmanirbhar Bharat through honesty, dedication, and hard work.

Sonowal highlighted India’s excellence in maritime trade, including shipbuilding, ship repair, ship recycling, EXIM trade, coastal shipping, and inland waterways. He noted that India’s improved ranking in the World Bank’s Logistics Performance Index is a testament to its maritime prowess. The Ministry is committed to enhancing seafarers’ security, safety, welfare, and development, with several initiatives already underway.

Captain Binesh Kumar Tyagi, Chairman and Managing Director of SCI and SCILAL, expressed gratitude to Minister Sonowal and other dignitaries for encouraging the young cadets on National Space Day. He mentioned SCI’s involvement in India’s space exploration missions through its vessels and shipping expertise.
