Minister Sanjay Seth and Defence Leaders Pay Tribute to Indian Coast Guard Chief Rakesh Pal

New Delhi [India], August 19: Minister of State in the Ministry of Defence, Sanjay Seth, paid his last respects to the Director General of the Indian Coast Guard, Rakesh Pal, at Brar Square in Delhi on Monday.

The mortal remains of Rakesh Pal, who passed away in Chennai on August 18 after suffering a cardiac arrest, were brought to Delhi. Chief of Defence Staff General Anil Chauhan also paid his respects at Brar Square.

Rakesh Pal was taken to Rajiv Gandhi Government Hospital in Chennai after feeling unwell, but despite immediate treatment, he could not be saved. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin paid their last respects in Chennai.

Expressing his grief, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh wrote on social media, “Pal was an able and committed officer under whose leadership the ICG was making significant strides in strengthening India’s maritime security. My heartfelt condolences to his bereaved family.”

Chief of the Army Staff General Upendra Dwivedi and all ranks of the Indian Army also expressed their deepest condolences. The Indian Army’s Additional Directorate General of Public Information stated, “The Indian Army offers prayers for the departed soul and stands firm with the bereaved family in this hour of grief.”

Rakesh Pal was appointed as the 25th Director General of the Indian Coast Guard in July last year. He was an alumnus of the Indian Naval Academy and joined the Indian Coast Guard in January 1989. He specialized in gunnery and weapons systems at the Indian Naval School in Dronacharya, Kochi, and completed an Electro-Optics Fire Control Solution course in the United Kingdom. He was awarded the Tatrakshak Medal in 2013 and the President Tatrakshak Medal in 2018 for his distinguished service.
