Indian Nationals in Russian Army: Minister S Jaishankar’s Update

New Delhi, August 9 – External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar informed the Lok Sabha about the status of Indian nationals recruited into the Russian Army. He stated that 91 Indians were recruited, 14 have been discharged, and 69 are awaiting release. Unfortunately, eight have passed away.

Misleading Recruitment

Jaishankar mentioned that many Indians were misled into joining the Russian Army under false promises of other jobs. He assured that the government is taking this issue very seriously.

Government Actions

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Jaishankar have raised this issue with Russian leaders, including President Vladimir Putin, who assured the early discharge of Indian nationals. A criminal case has been registered by the CBI against 19 individuals and entities involved in this scam.

Congress MP Adoor Prakash and AIMIM Chief Asaduddin Owaisi questioned Jaishankar about the steps being taken to bring back the 69 Indians and the actions against the traffickers. Jaishankar confirmed that investigations are ongoing, and four accused are in judicial custody.
