Minister Hardeep Singh Puri Explains eKYC for LPG Customers to Stop Fake Accounts

Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri announced that oil marketing companies are using eKYC (Electronic Know Your Customer) Aadhaar authentication to identify and eliminate bogus LPG accounts. This process, which has been in place for over eight months, aims to prevent misuse of subsidized cylinders.

Minister Puri clarified that there is no deadline for this mustering activity, either by the Oil Marketing Companies or by the Central Government. He responded to concerns raised by VD Satheesan, Leader of the Opposition in Kerala, who highlighted the difficulties caused by the current system.

During the LPG mustering process, delivery personnel verify customer credentials upon delivery using a mobile app. Customers receive an OTP to complete the process. They can also visit the distributor showroom or use OMC apps to complete the eKYC process independently.

Minister Puri assured that oil companies are issuing clarifications to the press to ensure that no genuine consumer faces any hardship or inconvenience.
