Milkipur Seat in Ayodhya: A Key Political Battleground
The Election Commission has delayed the polling for the Milkipur seat in Ayodhya due to a pending election petition. This seat has gained importance as it is linked to Akhilesh Yadav and Ayodhya. Samajwadi Party MP Awadhesh Prasad emphasized the significance of the seat, stating that it was the moral duty of the BJP member to withdraw his petition after Prasad resigned from the seat upon becoming an MP.
BJP MLA Baba Gorakhnath, who filed the petition against Prasad, announced their decision to withdraw it to allow elections to proceed. The petition was initially filed due to alleged fraudulent paperwork by Prasad, whose notary’s license had expired. Despite the ongoing High Court hearing, Gorakhnath expressed their desire for elections to take place, ensuring the people of Milkipur can elect their MLA.
Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar noted that while there are 10 vacant assembly seats in Uttar Pradesh, bypolls were announced for only nine, excluding Milkipur due to the pending petition. The bypolls are set to occur across 15 states, including Uttar Pradesh.
