Milind Deora Challenges Aaditya Thackeray to Debate in Worli Election
In Mumbai, Maharashtra, Milind Deora, the Shinde-led Shiv Sena candidate from the Worli assembly constituency, has questioned why Aaditya Thackeray, the current Worli MLA and leader of Shiv Sena (UBT), is avoiding a debate. Deora had previously invited Thackeray to an open debate on issues affecting Mumbai, Worli, and Maharashtra.
Deora expressed his concerns, stating, “A few days ago, I invited Aaditya Thackeray to debate the future of Worli, the future of Mumbai, and the future of Maharashtra. He claims to believe in democracy and strengthening it. During the Lok Sabha elections, he spoke about the importance of candidates engaging in debates. Why is he avoiding a debate in this election? If he claims to be pro-democracy and pro-debates, why is he running away from one?”
Additionally, Deora accused Shiv Sena (UBT) of distributing money in exchange for votes. He alleged that Thackeray’s party was caught on video distributing money and installing cameras in building societies to influence votes. A party leader from Worli was reportedly seen admitting to providing these cameras but refused to disclose the leader responsible, citing the code of conduct.
As the Maharashtra Assembly elections approach, campaigning has intensified between the ruling Mahayuti and the opposition Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA). The elections are set for November 20, with vote counting on November 23. In the 2019 elections, the BJP won 105 seats, Shiv Sena 56, and Congress 44. In the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, the MVA won 30 out of 48 seats, while the Mahayuti secured 17.
