MI New York began their title defence in the Major League Cricket (MLC) 2024 season with a commanding six-wicket win over the Seattle Orcas at Church Street Park in Morrisville.

Nicholas Pooran Shines

West Indian wicketkeeper-batter Nicholas Pooran was the star of the match, scoring an unbeaten 62 off just 37 balls. His performance helped MI New York chase down the target of 109 runs in just 14.2 overs.

Early Setbacks

Seattle Orcas initially had the upper hand with early wickets of Ruben Clinton (6) and Monank Patel (8), thanks to Cameron Gannon’s bowling. However, Pooran’s aggressive batting, including 2 sixes and 2 fours in one over, shifted the momentum.

Key Contributions

Despite losing Shayan Jahangir (3) and Tim David (12), Pooran and Kieron Pollard (8*) ensured MI New York’s victory.

MI New York’s Bowling Dominance

Earlier, MI New York’s bowlers restricted Seattle Orcas to just 108 runs. Rashid Khan and Trent Boult took three wickets each. Boult’s early breakthroughs, including dismissing Nauman Anwar for a duck and Quinton de Kock (5), set the tone.

Seattle Orcas’ Efforts

Shubham Ranjane was the top scorer for Seattle with 35 runs, while Harmeet Singh added a 20-run cameo. However, their efforts were not enough to set a challenging target.

MI New York chased down the target with 34 balls to spare, marking a strong start to their MLC 2024 campaign.
