Mexican Police Officer Learns New Policing Practices in India
A Mexican police officer, M Olmos A, recently completed a 15-day training program at Rashtriya Raksha University in Gandhinagar, India. She expressed that the training has equipped her with better policing practices for her country.
Shared Values and Cultural Exchange
Major General Deepak Mehra, Director of the School of Internal Security and SMART Policing, emphasized the shared values of peace and non-violence between India and Mexico. He noted that statues of Mahatma Gandhi are present in many prominent places in Mexico, symbolizing these shared values.
Mehra also highlighted the cultural exchanges between the two nations, mentioning Nobel laureate Octavio Paz, who wrote some of his best works during his time in India. He appreciated the support from the Embassy of India in Mexico for coordinating the program.
Historical Connections
Mehra spoke about the historical connections between India and Mexico, including the influence of Indian textiles on Mexican fashion and the contributions of Indian freedom fighters in Mexico during the early 1920s.
Strengthening Ties
Mexican Ambassador to India, Federico Salas, described the India-Mexico relationship as ‘fruitful’ and highlighted the strong economic links and cooperation in various sectors such as health, space, and academic exchanges. He mentioned that the new Mexican government will take office in October, and there will be high-level visits to India in the near future.
