Mehbooba Mufti Welcomes New Members to PDP in Srinagar
Several leaders and workers joined the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) at the party headquarters in Srinagar, with PDP chief Mehbooba Mufti present. Mufti criticized the BJP for manipulating election dates, saying, “They have their own calculations and decide the date of the election accordingly.” She expressed hope for a fair election process.
Earlier, Mufti took a jibe at National Conference Vice President Omar Abdullah, alleging that the National Conference finds elections acceptable only when in power. She accused the National Conference of committing irregularities in the 1987 elections to avoid competition from Jamaat-e-Islami.
Omar Abdullah defended his decision to contest the upcoming Jammu and Kashmir Assembly elections, aiming to present a united front against the BJP. The elections will be held in three phases on September 18, 25, and October 1, with vote counting on October 4. This is the first assembly poll since the abrogation of Article 370.
The Election Commission of India has issued a notification for the filing of nomination papers for the second phase of the elections, covering 26 assembly constituencies.
