Mehbooba Mufti Cancels Campaign to Support Palestine and Lebanon
Srinagar (Jammu and Kashmir) [India], September 28: Mehbooba Mufti, the chief of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and former Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir, has decided to cancel her election campaign scheduled for Sunday. She stated that she stands with “the people of Palestine and Lebanon in this hour of immense grief.”
This decision came a day after the killing of Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah. Mufti announced on X, “Cancelling my campaign tomorrow in solidarity with the martyrs of Lebanon and Gaza especially Hassan Nasrallah. We stand with the people of Palestine and Lebanon in this hour of immense grief and exemplary resistance.”
Earlier, the Israel Defence Forces (IDF) confirmed the killing of Hassan Nasrallah in airstrikes carried out by the Israeli military in Beirut. The IDF stated, “Hassan Nasrallah will no longer be able to terrorize the world.” Alongside Nasrallah, the commander of Hezbollah’s Southern Front, Ali Karaki, and other commanders were also killed.
Nasrallah was targeted at Hezbollah’s main headquarters in the southern suburbs of Beirut, known as the Dahiyeh, a Hezbollah stronghold. The headquarters is located underground, beneath residential buildings. The IDF mentioned that the strike occurred while Hezbollah’s top brass were coordinating terror activities against Israel.
Additionally, the IDF reported that dozens of anti-ship missiles stored by Hezbollah under buildings in Beirut were destroyed in the airstrikes. Hezbollah was known to possess Chinese C-704 and C802 missiles, as well as the Iranian Ghader, with ranges of up to around 200 kilometers.
