Mehboob Beg Files Nomination for Anantnag Assembly Elections

Mehboob Beg, a candidate from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), has filed his nomination for the Anantnag constituency in Jammu and Kashmir. The elections are scheduled to be held in three phases on September 18, 25, and October 1, with the results announced on October 4.

Speaking on August 23, Beg, a senior PDP leader, highlighted the efforts of PDP under the leadership of Mehboba Mufti in raising issues concerning the people of Jammu and Kashmir. He also mentioned that the INDIA Alliance is a national-level concept and challenged Congress to include the promise of special status for Jammu and Kashmir in their manifesto.

Beg praised Rahul Gandhi, the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, for standing with minorities, saying, “I salute Rahul Gandhi for raising the voice of minorities.”

The Congress and the National Conference have announced a pre-poll alliance for the upcoming elections, having previously fought the Lok Sabha elections together. The National Conference won two seats, Anantnag and Srinagar, while Congress did not win any seats.

The first phase of the elections will see 24 assembly seats go to polls, including Pampore, Tral, Pulwama, Rajpora, Zainapora, Shopian, D H Pora, Kulgam, Devsar, Dooru, Kokernag (ST), Anantnag West, Anantnag, Srigufwara-Bijbehara, Shangus-Anantnag East, Pahalgam, Inderwal, Kishtwar, Padder-Nagseni, Bhadarwah, Doda, Doda West, Ramban, and Banihal. A total of 90 assembly constituencies will be contested in Jammu and Kashmir.
