Meghalaya Floods and Landslides: 15 Lives Lost in Garo Hills
In the Indian state of Meghalaya, the recent floods and landslides have resulted in the tragic loss of 15 lives in the West Garo Hills and South Garo Hills districts. The Chief Minister’s Office confirmed the fatalities, including six members of a family from Hatisia Somgma village in South Garo Hills. Efforts to recover the bodies have been ongoing since Friday.
Among the deceased are Bijoy S Sangma, a teacher, and his son, Wian Chigado Marak, whose bodies were found in Sonagre Village, Dimapara. Meghalaya Education Minister Rakkam A Sangma, along with MLAs Sengchim N Sangma and Kartush Marak, visited the affected area to assess the situation.
Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma conducted a review on Saturday to address the flood situation impacting all five districts, with South Garo Hills and West Garo Hills being the most affected.
