Shillong (Meghalaya), October 10: Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma expressed his sorrow over the passing of Ratan Tata, praising his philanthropic contributions. Sangma highlighted Tata’s transformation of the industry and his kindness, stating, “He will be remembered most for his philanthropic work and kindness to people.”

Earlier, the Maharashtra Cabinet, led by Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, urged the Centre to award the Bharat Ratna to Ratan Tata, recognizing his achievements. The Cabinet also passed a condolence proposal and declared a day of mourning. Ratan Tata, Chairman Emeritus of Tata Sons, passed away at 86 in Mumbai.

Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis called Tata’s demise a “great loss for the country.” Tributes poured in from leaders, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah, who remembered Tata as a respected global figure.

Ratan Tata, born on December 28, 1937, in Mumbai, was the Chairman of Ratan Tata Trust and Dorabji Tata Trust, and led Tata Sons from 1991 to 2012. He was honored with the Padma Vibhushan in 2008.
