Mayawati Criticizes Uttar Pradesh Government Over Bahraich Violence

In Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh, BSP leader Mayawati expressed her concerns about the state’s handling of law and order following a violent incident in Bahraich. She urged the government to act fairly to restore peace and prevent further issues. Mayawati emphasized that maintaining peace during festivals, regardless of religion, is a government responsibility. She stated, “The deteriorating law and order situation in Bahraich is concerning. The administration should be unbiased and law-abiding to prevent serious issues and maintain peace.”

Mayawati also highlighted the need for better arrangements during festivals, stating, “Whether it is a festival of any kind or religion, maintaining peace is the government’s primary responsibility.” She urged the government to ensure the safety of people’s lives, property, and religion at all times. “Special arrangements are necessary during such occasions. If these responsibilities had been fulfilled, the incident in Bahraich would never have occurred,” she added.

Earlier, Samajwadi Party leader ST Hasan condemned the incident and called for action against those disturbing peace. “Action must be taken against those who take the law into their own hands. We live in a peaceful country… Those trying to disturb our peace, be it political or a common man, action must be taken against them,” Hasan stated.

The violence in Bahraich occurred during a Durga idol immersion procession in the Mahasi area, where a clash between two communities led to one death and several injuries. The police reported that the procession was passing through a Muslim area when an argument broke out. Bahraich Superintendent of Police, Vrinda Shukla, explained that a person from the Hindu community died after being shot, leading to a tense situation. The police conducted a route march following the clashes.

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath acknowledged the situation and stressed that those disrupting peace in Bahraich will face consequences.
