Mayawati Criticizes BJP and Congress for Changing the Constitution
Former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister and BSP Chief Mayawati has strongly criticized both the ruling BJP and the opposition Congress. She accused them of making the Constitution casteist, communalist, and capitalist through various amendments.
Addressing Pressing Issues
During a press conference in Lucknow, Mayawati claimed that both parties are two sides of the same coin and distract the public from important issues like unemployment and poverty. She said, “There is no doubt that the government and the opposition inside the Parliament and outside by showing the copies of the Constitution are two sides of the same coin. Even their mindset seems the same.”
Failing to Address Poverty and Inflation
Mayawati criticized both the BJP and Congress for failing to address poverty and inflation in the states they govern. She accused them of playing with the Constitution for their own political benefit and said, “Both parties, BJP and Congress, in the states where they are ruling, have failed to address poverty, inflation. To distract people, they are doing the drama of saving the Constitution.”
Concerns About Reservation and Caste Census
Mayawati expressed concerns that both parties want to undermine the reservation system for SC, ST, and OBC communities. She also accused the opposition of not being serious about conducting a caste census, stating, “The opposition talks about caste census but it is not serious about it. None of them want to conduct the caste census and are only indulged in vote politics.”
A day before, opposition leaders, including Congress Parliamentary Party Chairperson Sonia Gandhi, staged a protest in Parliament premises holding copies of the Constitution in their hands.
