Maxime Bernier Calls Hardeep Singh Nijjar a ‘Foreign Terrorist’ Amidst Canada-India Diplomatic Tensions

Maxime Bernier’s Statement on Hardeep Singh Nijjar

Maxime Bernier, leader of the People’s Party of Canada, has made strong statements regarding Hardeep Singh Nijjar, who was killed outside a gurdwara in Surrey in 2023. Bernier claims Nijjar was not Canadian but a ‘foreign terrorist’ who used fake documents to seek asylum in Canada multiple times since 1997. He suggests that Nijjar’s citizenship should be revoked posthumously to correct an administrative mistake.

Allegations Against Indian Diplomats

Bernier also addressed allegations by the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) and the Liberal government about Indian diplomats’ involvement in criminal activities in Canada. He emphasized the seriousness of these claims and the need for decisive action if proven true. However, he criticized Prime Minister Trudeau for allegedly using the situation to distract from other controversies.

RCMP’s Investigation

RCMP Commissioner Mike Duheme stated that Canadian law enforcement has uncovered significant criminal activities linked to agents of the Indian government. A multi-disciplinary team was formed in February 2024 to investigate these threats, which include homicides and extortions. The RCMP claims that Indian diplomats have used their positions to engage in clandestine activities.

India’s Response

In response, India has rejected Canada’s diplomatic communication, calling it part of Prime Minister Trudeau’s political agenda. India expelled six Canadian diplomats, demanding they leave by October 19, 2024, and criticized the targeting of Indian diplomats in Canada.
