Bernier described Nijjar as a “foreign terrorist” who used fake documents to claim asylum in Canada multiple times since 1997. He suggested that Nijjar’s citizenship should be revoked posthumously to correct an administrative mistake.

RCMP’s Investigation into Indian Diplomatic Activities
RCMP Commissioner Mike Duheme stated that Canadian law enforcement has uncovered significant criminal activities linked to agents of the Indian government. These activities include homicides, extortions, and threats to life, particularly affecting the South Asian community and pro-Khalistan movement members. A multi-disciplinary team was formed in February 2024 to address these threats.
Duheme claimed that Indian diplomats in Canada have used their positions to engage in clandestine activities, gathering information for the Indian government. Despite law enforcement efforts, these activities continue to pose a threat to public safety.
India’s Response to Canadian Allegations
India has strongly rejected Canada’s diplomatic communication implicating Indian diplomats as “persons of interest” in the investigation. India accused Prime Minister Trudeau’s government of supporting extremists and expelled six Canadian diplomats in response. The Ministry of External Affairs demanded their departure by October 19, 2024.
