Mauritius Thanks India for Support: Ministers Gobin and Jaishankar Inaugurate Projects

Mauritius’ Minister of External Affairs, Maneesh Gobin, expressed his gratitude to India for its unwavering support. Gobin called it a ‘momentous day’ as he and India’s External Affairs Minister, S Jaishankar, inaugurated development projects in Mauritius.

In a post on X, Gobin said, “We express our deep gratitude to @DrSJaishankar for reaffirming India’s consistent support to Mauritius regarding the Chagos Archipelago, in alignment with India’s principled stance on decolonisation, sovereignty, and territorial integrity.”

Gobin and Jaishankar inaugurated High Impact Community Development Projects, exchanged Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs), and handed over Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) cards. Gobin expressed deep gratitude to India for its unwavering support and commitment to their shared vision.

Jaishankar arrived in Mauritius for a two-day official visit and thanked Gobin for the warm welcome. He looked forward to productive engagements to strengthen the special relationship between the two nations. This visit follows Mauritius Prime Minister Pravind Jugnauth’s visit to India for Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s swearing-in ceremony.

India and Mauritius share close and longstanding relations due to historical, demographic, and cultural reasons. Nearly 70% of Mauritius’ population of 1.2 million people are of Indian origin.
