Port Louis, Mauritius – Mauritius Prime Minister Pravind Jugnauth announced that the collaboration between India and Mauritius in space technology will usher in a new era of data sharing and technological advancements. This statement was made during the inauguration of several projects and the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the two nations.

Key Discussions and Agreements

Prime Minister Jugnauth highlighted his meeting with India’s External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, where they discussed the future of their strategic partnership. They also inaugurated 12 community development projects that will benefit the people of Mauritius.

One significant agreement was the exchange of project plans for a joint satellite between the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) and the Mauritius Research and Innovation Council (MRIC). This collaboration aims to enhance the use of space technologies and renewable energy, as outlined in Mauritius’ renewable energy roadmap for 2030.

Renewable Energy and Cultural Projects

Jugnauth emphasized Mauritius’ commitment to maximizing renewable energy use and mentioned India’s support in achieving these goals. He also recalled his participation in the G20 Summit in Delhi, where he represented Mauritius and discussed climate change challenges.

Additionally, Jugnauth announced the formation of a committee to develop guidelines and a master plan for reviving the Ganga Talao spiritual sanctuary into a religious and cultural hub, with support from the Indian government.

Warm Welcome for S Jaishankar

External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar arrived in Mauritius for a two-day visit, expressing gratitude for the warm welcome from Mauritius Foreign Minister Maneesh Gobin. Jaishankar’s visit aims to strengthen the special relationship between India and Mauritius through productive engagements and meetings with senior ministers.

This visit follows Prime Minister Jugnauth’s recent trip to India for Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s swearing-in ceremony. It marks one of Jaishankar’s first bilateral engagements since his re-appointment in the Modi-led government.
