Former Australian opener Matthew Hayden shared his thoughts on the upcoming Border-Gavaskar Trophy series against India. He emphasized that runs will be crucial and could determine the series’ outcome.

Series Schedule

The much-awaited series will start with a day match at Perth Stadium from November 22 to November 26. The second Test will be a day-night match at Adelaide Oval from December 6 to 10. The third Test will take place at The Gabba in Brisbane from December 14 to 18. The Boxing Day Test will be held at Melbourne Cricket Ground from December 26 to 30. The series will conclude with the final Test at Sydney Cricket Ground from January 3 to 7.

Hayden’s Insights

Speaking at the CEAT Cricket Awards, Hayden said, “You look at the line-ups, and it is hard to really tell who has got the edge. I sense that it is going to be runs that are going to be the point of difference. So the best need to stand up in this series; runs are going to be at a premium.”

He also mentioned that the unique structure of the tournament, moving from west to east, will add to the excitement. Hayden noted that Australia hasn’t won a home series against India in nearly a decade, which will be a significant factor for the Australian team.

“We have not had it in our hands for two series in Australia, which is kind of the coveted grounds,” Hayden added. He concluded by saying that the series offers a fantastic opportunity for the top two teams on the World Test Championship table to compete and prove who is the best.
