Badminton coach Mathias Boe, who played a crucial role in the success of the Indian men’s doubles duo Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty, has announced his retirement from coaching after the Paris Olympics.

Quarter-Finals Defeat

The popular duo, known as ‘Sat-Chi,’ were defeated in the quarter-finals by Malaysia’s Aaron Chia and Wooi Yik Soh. Despite starting strong, they lost with scores of 21-13, 14-21, 16-21, ending their hopes of bringing an Olympic medal back to India.

Boe’s Farewell Message

Boe took to Instagram to congratulate Satwiksairaj and Chirag, acknowledging their hard work and dedication. He expressed his pride in their efforts despite the loss and announced his retirement, citing the stress and time spent in badminton halls.

Achievements Under Boe’s Coaching

Under Boe’s guidance, Satwiksairaj and Chirag achieved remarkable success, including:

  • Commonwealth Games gold
  • Asian Games gold
  • World Championships bronze medal
  • Two BWF Tour titles in 2024 (French Open and Thailand Open)
  • Runners-up in Malaysian Open and India Open

They also reached a peak ranking of number one in men’s doubles competition and were part of the Indian team in the Thomas Cup 2024.

Despite their impressive achievements, they could not secure an Olympic medal this time. Boe thanked his colleagues and supporters, ending his coaching career with a heartfelt message.
